Priorities:
The Suzy Kelly Difference:
I am a common sense conservative both fiscally and socially. I am also a business owner who has had to make executive decisions over the past 31 years. When making corporate decisions, I first gather all the facts and then make a decision based upon what is in the best interest of my company's future.
I intend to govern in the same manner. I will gather the facts from all sides of an issue and make a decision that will have a positive impact for the City of Chesapeake's future. I believe that we need to apply common sense to many of the issues that come before our government bodies.
I am a person who truly believes that tax dollars are your money and my money. In order to lower taxes, we must either stimulate the economy, reduce spending, or both. My favored approach is to stimulate the economy. Having a thriving economy produces job opportunities for our citizens.
I believe in personal responsibility and in a culture that people-helping-people is preferred to government-helping-people. Wherever possible, I will create and support initiatives to this end. The more we as citizens are involved in helping others, the less we depend on the government.
In a time of economic stress like the one we are experiencing today, government must focus on creating jobs, reducing regulations on small business, and provide incentives for businesses to locate in Chesapeake. Through vibrant private sector growth, revenue will be generated that will enhance the quality of life that we enjoy here in our city.
